aya Jaya Jaya Hey and Gatta Kusthi have a strikingly similar plots. Leaving the probability of the coincidence to gossipers, yet the treatment of these stories speaks a lot about the acceptable degree of women lead stories in Tamil and Malayalam.

JJJH has an overtly female-driven story with the leading character having agency for herself. Well, Gatta Gusthi starts with a title card clearly announcing the movie is led by Vishnu Vishal. Not sure what made the producers of the film take this approach in such a storyline. Maybe the notion that only a hero’s film will receive a massive response? Or making the film work inside out?
